The famous "How am I funny?" scene in Goodfellas was inspired by a real event from Joe Pesci's life. When he was young and working in a restaurant, Pesci told a mobster that he was funny. The mobster didn't take it well, and the reaction stuck with Pesci.
He shared this story with director Martin Scorsese, who decided it had to be in the movie. To capture authentic reactions, Scorsese kept the scene out of the script, so the cast's surprise was genuine during filming. |
